Restaurant Review LMAO Pesca Amsterdam

THIS IS A RESTAURANT REVIEW LMAO

I went to a restaurant last night, a fancy one I guess, Pesca in Amsterdam, so as part  of this one blog post every day, something that I am sure to stop very shortly, I thought I would write a restaurant review, and this is that review.

Pesca has an interesting concept, you are greeted and given some popcorn and a glass of cava if you want and also a number on an elongated plastic card. Your attention is then drawn to the 'fish market' side of the establishment, at the front, where you are given the choice to choose your fish or shell fish which will then be cooked according to discussions. Once that, very nice and fun part, of the process is finished, you are then ushered through to the wine section where you have further discussions on which wine will go best with the food choices you have made. After that, again fun process, has been resolved, you are then taken to your seats, your wine in an ice bucket put next to your table, and then are gradually served your choices throughout the meal.

I like this concept very much, it's excellent and basically I would recommend this place to most folks if you are looking for something a little different and a little fancy. For your information, our bill with wine came to 150 euros which is, I think, reasonable given the service, standard of food and wine that we had, and I definitely would come back again as the fish selection is meant to be different every day as it's freshly caught, so there is that side of it too.

We had:

Swordfish ceviche

Scallops with asparagus

Some kind of whole fish thing I can't remember but it was good

Mussels

Fried soft shell crab

A mint salad with asparagus

Fries

Tuna

Apart from the whole fish which I can't remember exactly what it was but it was good, those portions are small but very delicious, but the fries where fucking shite and that was a shame. You know the ones I am talking about, a few good fries cooked with the skin on, but a lot of shrapnel in there, stuff which is just fucking pish. They should not be serving those kind of fries in that establishment, but sadly these fries seem to be the norm in some places, I never see anyone finishing them, annoying AF!

The place itself used to be, back in the day, a middle eastern tapas place which I used to go to quite often, but I can't remember the name of the place exactly (it was called NOMADS) but it was very good, and you used to lie down in booths and sometimes you had belly dancing and sometimes actors in cat suits used to crawl around pretending to be cats, stuff like that, I've always liked the venue. In this sustainable fish restaurant version it's standard seating, but some of the seats are 'high' and might not be suitable for larger folks or older folks, so watch out for that.

The waiters, experts etc were all very very friendly and fun, which is very much appreciated in the Netherlands where service can be fucking dog shit. I guess at fancy places it's usually better, but it was fun here and I find that very important, well done on this restaurant for that.

So I would give this place the following marks

Value - 8/10

Vibe - 9/10

Physical comfort/place itself - 8/10

Food - 9/10 (shitty fries)

Toilets - 8/10

Wine - 8/10

This place comes with a Robert Fifoot recommended seal of approval, I didn't take any pictures because I'm not a fucking animal and prefer to be in the experience rather than taking pictures of my food also IMHO you look like an asshole doing it, but each to their own that's only my opinion and if people take pictures of their food that's their own business, I will fight to my death for their right to do it
